Following the first commercialization of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) foods in 1996, the debate/technology has attracted divergent opinions on its suitability for human consumption and as one among solutions to food security in Kenya and the world. In 2012, Kenyan government banned the importation and consumption of GMO foods in Kenya. Recently, the Kenyan government lifted the 10 year old ban, amplifying debate on whether Kenya is ready for GMOs.
Given that Kenyatta University is the only University in Kenya with Bio-Safety level II laboratory, certified to conduct genetic engineering research by National Biosafety Authority, The Division of Research Innovation & Outreach (RIO) through the Directorate of Research and Dissemination is organizing a webinar with an objective of creating awareness on GM technology.
This is therefore to invite you to attend the webinar scheduled on Monday, 21st November, 2022 from 10.00am to 12.00pm via Zoom.
